Nina Assimakopoulos is credited with over 87 international world-premiere performances and commissions and has recorded 5 solo CDs, the most recent of which, Vayu (2015), was selected in to the first round of the Grammy nominations for Best Classical Solo Instrumental.

Sammy Holloman
Assistant Director
Flutist and educator Sammy Holloman fosters creative, inclusive learning environments for young artists. Passionate about training future music educators, she equips students with practical tools for success while promoting music by living composers. Her collaborative spirit bridges diverse backgrounds and experiences through shared musical exploration, inspiration, and connection.

Jackson Thee
Assistant Director
Jackson Thee is a flutist and educator pursuing his Master’s in Flute Performance at West Virginia University. A Capital University graduate, he specializes in contemporary music and music education and has studied with renowned flutists Nina Assimakopoulos, Lindsey Goodman, and Lisa Jelle.

Greta Hulterstrum
Assistant Director of Historic and Folk Flutes
Greta Hulterstrum is a senior flute performance major at WVU from Minnesota. She performs with WVU ensembles and has played in the Chicago Summer Opera Orchestra. A prizewinner in multiple competitions, Greta has performed in masterclasses with top flutists and teaches at Nels Bells Music Studio.

Alice Fleishman
Assistant Director of Historic and Folk Flutes
Alice is a seasoned traditional musician specializing in Irish wooden flute, whistle, and tenor banjo. With 27 years of performance experience and training from renowned Celtic camps, she performs with Sang Run, Wolf Creek Session, and Aurora Celtic, and has taught private whistle lessons and workshops for over a decade.

Jamie Whoolery
Operations
Jamie Whoolery is Assistant Dean of Production, Presentation, Operations, and Cultural Engagement at WVU’s College of Creative Arts and Media. An award-winning designer and experienced arts leader, he oversees facilities, programming, and community engagement. He previously held roles at Clemson and JMU and holds degrees from WVU and UConn.

Brittany Trotter
Competition Coordinator
Dr. Brittany Trotter is Assistant Professor of Flute and Woodwinds Director at the University of the Pacific. A prize-winning soloist, she performs and lectures nationwide. Her research on cultural hybridity in Valerie Coleman’s music earned the NFA’s 2020 Graduate Research Award. She holds degrees from USM, Wyoming, and WVU.

Nathan Wilson
AFNHA Community Outreach Coordinator
Nathan Wilson is a flutist, conductor, and educator based in Keyser, WV. A student of Nina Assimakopoulos, he studied at West Virginia University and is pursuing a Master’s at the University of Georgia. Nathan performs with local ensembles and is passionate about flute pedagogy, performance, and music education.

Miranda Cook
Youth Flute Camp Chaperone/AFNHA Grant Assistant
Miranda Cook is a dedicated music educator and flutist who studied under Professor Nina Assimakopoulos. She directs band and choir at Northern Garrett High School and values music’s power to connect and inspire. Miranda fosters creativity, expression, and lifelong appreciation through inclusive teaching and active participation in performance and leadership.
