The International Festival of Flutes is a vibrant, one-of-a-kind celebration of flute traditions from around the world—Celtic, Appalachian, Native American, classical, and rare flutes from Asia, South America, and beyond.

With a community flute choir for all ages and abilities, masterclasses, workshops for beginners through advanced players, private lessons, daily gala concerts, and hands-on opportunities to explore and play flutes from diverse cultures, the festival allows for cross-cultural exchange, community building, and the sharing of many musical heritages!

The festival offers a unique opportunity to experience global flute traditions, hear internationally acclaimed artists perform, and build meaningful connections across cultures and generations. We’re committed to accessibility—offering scholarships and creating an inclusive space for all to learn, share, and inspire, fostering lasting connections beyond the stage.

This four-day event culminates in a powerful finale, uniting flutists with Native American dancers, singers, and drummers (Medicine Horse Singers) in a community-wide celebration of sound, spirit, and tradition. Open to all—professionals, students, and enthusiasts alike—the festival offers a rare, transformative experience of cultural exchange.

The International Festival of Flutes: People | Place | Culture, hosted by West Virginia University, takes place on lands that include the ancestral territories of the Shawnee, Lenape (Delaware), Haudenosaunee (Seneca, Cayuga, Onondaga, Oneida, Mohawk, Tuscarora), Cherokee, and many other Indigenous peoples.

We honor and recognize the Indigenous Nations and communities who have stewarded this region since time immemorial, and on whose ancestral lands we gather today to celebrate diverse musical traditions and cultural expressions from around the world.
