Sammy Holloman

Dr. Sammy Holloman is Assistant Professor of Flute at Northwest Missouri State University. Passionate about training future music educators, Sammy equips students with practical tools for success while promoting music by living composers. Her collaborative spirit bridges diverse backgrounds and experiences through shared musical exploration, inspiration, and connection. Sammy holds degrees from WVU, KU, and KSU.

Sammy Holloman is a flutist and educator whose passion for pedagogy drives her desire to foster safe creative spaces for artists to explore and pursue their craft. In her pursuit of her dream to teach future music educators, Sammy advocates for the next generation of teachers by giving students the tools to be successful. She has a strong desire to connect with others of different backgrounds and experiences through collaboration and aims to promote the works of living composers.

As a flutist, Sammy is especially interested in storytelling through performance. She made her international debut as the featured instrumental soloist performing Charles Griffes’ Poem with the SSMA orchestra on a tour through Italy and Switzerland. She has performed as a large ensemble and chamber musician with ensembles such as the Springfield Symphony Orchestra, Lawrence Community Orchestra, Cleveland Composers Guild, and as a pit orchestra musician for theatre productions throughout Ohio, Kansas, and Missouri.  Sammy has both presented and performed at national conferences such as The National Flute Association Convention and the Mid-Atlantic Flute Convention, as well as other regional conferences.


Sammy is an active clinician and frequently visits local schools to provide workshops for middle and high school students. She has been a featured clinician for the Kansas Flute Society Flute Day (2019), the Flute Society of Greater Philadelphia (2022), and the Mid-Atlantic Flute Convention (2024). Sammy has a hybrid in-person and online private studio, teaching students from all over the US, and has given masterclasses in Ohio, Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Maryland, Kentucky, Kansas, and South Dakota.

Sammy is currently the Assistant Professor of Flute at Northwest Missouri State University in Maryville, MO. She earned her Doctor of Musical Arts from West Virginia University in 2023 where she studied with Nina Assimakopoulos. She earned an M.M. in flute performance from the University of Kansas with Daniel Velasco and her B.M. in music education at Kent State University with Diane Rechner.
