Francisco Barbosa
Described by Jacques Zoon as "one of the most interesting artists of his generation", Francisco Barbosa, born in Braga (Portugal), is currently one of the most prominent Portuguese flutists.
He began his musical studies with José Matos, Luís Sousa and later at the Calouste Gulbenkian Music Conservatory in Braga. He completed his degree in flute at the Academia Superior de Orquestra da Metropolitana, in the class of Nuno Inácio, in 2013. He later studied at the Escuela Superior de Música Reina Sofia, with Jacques Zoon and Salvador Martinez Tos. During his academic path he also worked with Emmanuel Pahud, William Bennett, Wolfgang Schulz, Reza Nafar, Jeff Khaner, among others.
Francisco Barbosa has been a guest musician at several flute conventions and festivals in Europe, South America and the United States in the recent years. He has frequently performed recitals, solo concerts and masterclasses in Europe, Latin America and the United States in New York, Boston, West Virginia, Los Angeles, Chicago and Las Vegas. In 2019 he released his first CD "Mozart Flute Quartets" and the second - "Telemann Fantasias" - in 2021. Since 2019, he is solo flute of the BD Chamber Orchestra. In addition to his performative work, he is the author of the series of daily flute exercises books - " New Approach to the Art of Flute Playing", with 5 volumes released, between 2018 and 2023. His interest in the instrument construction led him to study and create his own line of “stoppers” for the flute, in 2021.
