Cal Stroud

Celtic Flute

Cal Stroud is an Irish flute player and singer hailing from Morgantown, WV. Growing up in a singing and fiddling family, he has had traditional tunes and songs in his ears and heart since he was a child, and has played Irish music more seriously for over a decade. Cal has studied Irish flute under NY flute player and Uillean piper Ivan Goff, holds a degree in vocal performance from West Virginia Wesleyan College and subsequently studied voice and choral conducting with Dr. Letícia Grützmann. Cal is a member of the Mud Larks, a West Virginia-based traditional music ensemble rooted in Irish music, and helps lead the biweekly Morgantown Irish sessions.

The International Festival of Flutes: People | Place | Culture, hosted by West Virginia University, takes place on lands that include the ancestral territories of the Shawnee, Lenape (Delaware), Haudenosaunee (Seneca, Cayuga, Onondaga, Oneida, Mohawk, Tuscarora), Cherokee, and many other Indigenous peoples.

We honor and recognize the Indigenous Nations and communities who have stewarded this region since time immemorial, and on whose ancestral lands we gather today to celebrate diverse musical traditions and cultural expressions from around the world.
